IAPP Canada OPC Final Report

This report provided information to the OPC on the success of IAPP Canada’s KnowledgeNet expansion program.

Published

On June 1, 2009, IAPP Canada was awarded a grant from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC) to expand its Canada KnowledgeNet program, which offers expert presentations on topics of key interest to privacy and data protection professionals. The goal was to facilitate 15 KnowledgeNets in four cities across Canada—Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver—in addition to those already offered in Toronto. In its final report to the OPC, IAPP Canada detailed the success of the project, which included creating cost-effective methods to provide program support and marketing while using grant funds to further develop the program.

Topics offered between October 2009 and March 2010 included “Privacy by Design,” “The OPC’s Facebook Investigation,” “Current Issues in Employee Privacy” and “The Future of the Privacy Profession.”

As of mid-March, the Canada KnowledgeNet program had grown from offering two meetings per year prior to the grant award to facilitating 16 meetings in cities across the country including Edmonton, Montreal, St. John’s, Ottawa, Vancouver and Victoria.
