IAPP young privacy professional roles and expectations
Help lead the IAPP by serving as a KnowledgeNet chapter chair or a young privacy professional. Share your expertise and shape the future of privacy, AI governance and cyber security law with fellow thought leaders from around the world. The application period for these positions opens every September through our annual Call for Volunteers.
Roles and expectations
Young privacy professionals (YPP) work with their local KnowledgeNet Chapter co-chairs to plan networking activities for members. One or two YPPs are accepted per chapter (depending on the size of the chapter). YPPs serve a one-year term.
Young privacy professionals are required to:
- Maintain active IAPP membership.
- Actively contribute to planning and attending chapter meetings.
- Communicate regularly with co-chairs, YPPs and their assigned IAPP staff partner about chapter planning.
- Organize at least two networking activities per year.
- YPP needs to confirm dates with the local chairs and make sure there are no conflicts with other meetings before planning a networking activity. Non-members that may be interested in privacy or the IAPP are welcome to attend. Attendees are responsible for their own expenses and no CPE credits are awarded.
- Assist local KnowledgeNet Chapter chairs as needed.
- Promote meetings on social media, provide speaker and/or host outreach and coordination help and participate in on-site execution of meeting.
- If an early career development meeting is scheduled for a chapter meeting, chairs are encouraged to reach out to their YPP and ask for insight.
Selection criteria
Young privacy professionals are selected with the goal of creating a balanced working group based on experience level, industry sector, and area of expertise. Considerations for selection include:
- Professional experience and knowledge of privacy, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity laws, regulations, policies, procedures, best practices and theory.
- Length of membership plus commitment to and involvement with the IAPP.
- Must have attended at least one KnowledgeNet meeting.
Benefits
- Receive three continuing professional education credits for each year of service.
- Enhance your profile and visibility while being seen as a leader in the community.
- Make great connections with your fellow IAPP volunteers — take advantage of opportunities to meet in person at IAPP events.
How to apply
The IAPP accepts applications for young privacy professionals each fall through our Call for Volunteers. For more information, visit our Call for Volunteers FAQ, or contact engage@iapp.org for details on additional volunteer opportunities.
